Master Gunnery Sgt. Kendall Phelps

Phelps, 57, was working as a school teacher in Silverlake, Kan., when he came out of military retirement to deploy to Iraq late last year with a newly formed civil affairs unit whose ranks include his son, Maj. Christopher Phelps.
